On November 6, The Good News Church in Tacoma, WA was celebrating their 25-year anniversary. This was a special time of thanksgiving to God for the opportunity to serve the community and see His work in the hearts of the people. There was a Word of edification, singing for the glory of God, words of encouragement, as well as the Lord’s Supper.
Three of the previous head pastors also participated in the celebration: Andrey Odemchuk, Daniel Kiyenock, and Oleg Sidorenko. One of the pastors said: “This is clearly the work of the grace of God—to see what the church has become.”
The Good News Church began their ministry journey in 1997. This was the first Slavic Baptist church in Tacoma. The pastors from the First Ukrainian Baptist Church, “Federal Way” blessed the ministers at the opening ceremony of a new Slavic church in the region.
At first, this was a small group of believers who wished to study the Word of God, but now it has grown into a church with many ministries, and two full church services: one in Russian, oriented on the older generation and those who recently came to the U.S., and the second in English which is geared towards the generation that has been raised here in the States.
At the time of the church dedication, the church had only 31 people, but now, the official count is 331 members. The church was renting for 23 years, but two years ago, God has blessed them with an opportunity to buy their own church building.
The Good News Church is known for having open hearts that love God and people. They are very hospitable to everyone who comes looking for a home church and some hope. It is through the kinds deeds of its members, the people around are finding Jesus Christ as their Savior. Praise God for every one of His blessings!
