Pretty soon the stores, streets, houses, and churches will be decorated for the Christmas. People will be preparing and anticipating this holiday. But how does one celebrate Christmas at the time of war? How are those who live in shadow of the unknown and constant danger, going to celebrate it?
Beginning in 2014, the Revival Baptist Church in Vancouver, WA has been doing an annual gift drive and sending to the Ukrainian orphans. The Christmas Gift Drive project is made possible through the efforts of dozens of volunteers, and hundreds of generous donors. Children and teenagers tend to be the most zealous and joyful supporters of this ministry.
This year, the church was able to collect 800 presents. Each one of these is an expression of love and care for those who are in dire need. This church is not only helping with the relief efforts but is also evangelistic in its nature. Valentina Zakharova, who is a coordinator, is saying that this ministry is also crucial for the Revival Church as well. By serving in this capacity, they are able to revive their missionary efforts and mobilize more people to help those in need. This is also an opportunity to build missionary connections between different churches in the U.S. and Ukraine. The local church partners in Ukraine are able to distribute the “American” presents during their Christmas concerts and evangelistic services.
May these presents bring the joy of Christmas to the suffering children in Ukraine!
