The central theme of the annual presidential breakfast this year was the command of Jesus to love one’s enemies. The breakfast took place right after the concluding session of the government over the issue of impeachment of the country’s president. For many, the obedience to the commandment of the Lord happened to be too difficult.
“Inside the International Ballroom at the Washington Hilton, the mood at the National Prayer Breakfast was half church service, half political rally” – that was the characterization of this meeting by Bob Smietana who wrote an article published on the Christianity Today’s website.
The Scripture’s commands in 1 Tim. 2:1–2 “First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are inn authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” Pray for President D. Trump and his staff so that our country and our government will return to the biblical values and practical obedience to God’s commandments.
Pastor of the Good News Church in Takoma attended this prayer breakfast. He invited all of us to join him in prayer for our government - see his letter below.

The annual event held in Washington DC in February brings together leaders from 140+ countries around the person of Jesus. National Prayer Breakfast is a yearly, invitation-only event that has been attended by every United States president since 1953. My wife Irina and I had the privilege of first attending 8 years ago and it was with pleasure that we accepted the invitation to attend this year. It was encouraging to see our President, Vice-President and Speaker of the House all present at the prayer breakfast that centered on the person of Jesus, regardless of their political differences and values. It was especially touching to read the testimony of our Vice President, Mike Pence that was given out to every attendee, along with the New Testament.
Paul, in his letter to Timothy, gave us some clear instructions: “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” – 1 Timothy 2:1-2. This call to pray is not contingent on our leaders sharing our convictions, values, or being God-honoring people – it applies to all leaders!
It is my hope and prayer that the churches of PCSBA would be regularly praying for our country and our leaders, in accordance to the Biblical call for it. Would you join me in prayer?
In Christ,
Pastor Vasiliy Stupin
