In light of the upcoming election, on behalf of The Pacific Coast Association I invite you to unite in prayer, which will take place on November 1, 2020. This is a prayer for our bigger home, for the country, which we love and care for, both in the present, as well as in the future. The United States is at the crossroads, and the outcome of this election will have a huge impact on the future of this country.
Apostle Paul says that the government is established in order to protect, as well as to encourage the good in society. “For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good (Rom.13:3-4).
Unfortunately, the concept of good is very different among the candidates. As Christians, we must vote for those candidates whose understanding of good is the most consistent with the biblical teaching. The teaching of the Bible does not vary from generation to generation or the understanding of society in which we live. We must have the ability to discern good and evil, even when the “evil” is given to us under the appearance of “good”. For example, the murder of the unborn children is great evil even though some say that it is “good” and that the mother has the freedom of choice to kill or not to kill her unborn child.
We must not come under the influence of feelings and the charm of the candidates who want to be likable at all costs. Often, they are hiding from us those unpopular points of view of their parties, which are not supported by the majority of the population. In case they are elected, however, they will advance and defend the position of their party.
Besides the sugar-coated words and promises, we must also look at the list of the laws that the candidate has endorsed in the past, and not be deceived if this this time they act differently. The majority of the politicians are quick to forget their pre-election promises soon after they get elected.
A Christian is someone who received the ability from God to discern good and evil. He must not compromise his conscience. Today, many ideas that are supported by the political parties and candidates are openly against the Bible. That is why the issues on family, abortions, religious freedom, orderly conduct in the streets of our cities, the limited role of the government in the life of its citizens, and many others are very important to us.
Participating in the election is a privilege that we as citizens have in this country. No one can predict the outcome of the election, and that is good. God knows the results, and He holds everything under His control. He can extend His mercy over this country and send a revival that is so needed for us. All of the politicians are imperfect, and we rely not on the politicians who often disappoint the people who vote for them. Instead, we rely on God Who used and continues to use some of them, those who in their positions of influence, try not only to please men, but to please the Almighty God.
