Slavic Baptist Church of Honolulu had a celebratory service on March 19, 2017. During this service, a new deacon, Leonid Bak, was ordained for deaconship.
Leonid’s brother Vitaliy Bak, pastor of Slavic Baptist Church “Bethany” from Minnesota, was among those who ordained Leonid. Vitaliy's sermon sounded like an exhortation to the church about the role of ministers in the spiritual edification. I spoke of the Scriptures’ requirements in ministry of a deacon, about God’s definition of necessity of this ministry to the church, as well as about the gifts of the Holy Spirit needed for an effective ministry of a deacon. Ordination prayer was made by pastors Vitaliy Bak, and Aleksandr Bublik, and myself.
The church in Honolulu exists for about six years now, and with the arrival of the new families to the island, began to grow in numbers and in quality. I noticed a huge number of children in the church who exceed the number of adults, and that is not by chance. The majority of the church members are young families. Pavel Marchenko is in charge of spiritual leadership of the church. It was pleasant to see the unity, enthusiasm, and the participation of all the members in supporting their ministry. Their relatives were left on the main land, while the church members became one spiritual family on the island of Oahu in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. They saw a great need in supporting each other, and this cultivated a special atmosphere of Christian love. This love towards God and each other is a driving force in proclamation of the Gospel to the people around them.
